Rumour Mill: Funcom Layoffs
As first reported on Massive Gamer, the rumour mill is spinning with news that Funcom has laid off a healthy number of their North American employees. No official confirmation has been made as of yet.
According to anonymous sources, Funcom has just laid off a large number of their North American staff. The rumor has the victims being mostly QA. It’s hard to blame the sources for being anonymous – the process may not be over, and yammering to a news site could move a person up to the top of the next chop list.

According to Ten Ton Hammer the rumors were confirmed. Funcom’s statement on the subject:
“We did have some staffing cuts at Funcom this week as well as new positions opening in the organization as part of our ongoing cost based efficiency and performance initiatives that are vital to any business.”
Most likely they were customer service employees that got scaled back because of the lower then expected number of subscribers in North America
Could be. If they were mostly QA like Massive Gamer suggested, then it could also be that they’ve decided to rely more on subscriber beta testers on the test servers for their games.
